Utilizing ATP, MAP, and commodity group funding (National Turkey Federation, Nebraska Soybean Board, South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council), the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) has hosted four Americas Expo activities in Colombia, Peru, and online (due to COVID-19) beginning in 2019.
The annual trade show allows U.S. poultry and egg exporters to meet vetted importers from Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. It also features local chef dishes made with U.S. turkey and chicken, educational seminars, and a networking reception. Each year the activity has grown from approximately 200 in attendance in 2019 to almost 300 from 15 countries in 2022. As a result, estimated sales have increased from $3.9 million in 2019 to almost $9.4 million in 2022, totaling nearly $21 million in exports of U.S. poultry and egg products over four years.
The Latin America/Caribbean region is the second largest U.S. poultry and eggs market in value, behind Mexico. In 2021, the area imported almost $1.4 billion in U.S. poultry and egg products, or more than 812,000 metric tons (USDA FAS).
